The University of North Dakota School of Medicine is one of only 11 federally selected sites in the nation to receive the most advanced technology–the microPET (positron emission tomography) scanner, cyclotron and hot lab–to conduct studies of the brain. One of the nation’s premier facilities for the study of drug addiction and neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s), multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and others. UND was awarded $21.7 million, 8-year INBRE project in pathology and a $10.3 million COBRE (Center of Biomedical Research Excellence) grant to advance investigations into diseases of the brain
